What data sources do you use? Where do you get all this data?

We’ve invested significant resources into building InsightDB—our database of in-depth interviews with B2B audiences (primarily, software users and decision-makers). And we’re just getting started.

These interviews are typically 45-60 minutes long, and cover a broad range of topics. We are continuing to invest in building that database, because we think that:

  • AI-driven outputs are only as good as the data they can access, and
  • That data is extremely valuable for our customers.

The vast majority of the GetWhys platform’s insights come from those research interviews, and our products are explicitly built to show their sources, so you can see it for yourself.

There are two main exceptions:

  • Large language model training data. We use large language models to analyze our interview transcripts. In some cases, the large language models will generate information based on their training data.
  • Client-side data. Some of our clients are currently piloting our Bring-Your-Own-Data (BYOData) product. They’ll be able to see answers derived from their own call recordings.

How often do you refresh your data?

We’re constantly refreshing relevant* data. Additionally, the GetWhys platform prioritizes newly gathered information with an exponential decay formula, so you’ll always see the latest and greatest.

* There’s a lot of B2B data out there that isn’t interesting anymore. Microsoft Word usage is ubiquitous—but we’ve found that user experiences and the purchase process generally don’t change MoM.

How are you able to be so affordable?

Most primary research products and consulting firms have a per-project business model; they gather data for a single customer. They need to make enough margin on each engagement to be profitable.

We don’t need to be profitable on a per-interview basis, because we expect multiple customers to benefit from the insights in each interview.
